Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Matthews Dentist Dr Abdel A More Duarte

From a very young age, Dr. More was surrounded by medicine, as his mom is a dental assistant and dad is a gastroenterologist. Because of this, he was frequently exposed to dentistry and medicine growing up, and it gave him a strong sense of belonging and comfort to do something that honors his family's legacy but also fulfills him as a person.

Dr. More obtained his first dental degree from the University of Medical Sciences in Villa Clara, Cuba in 2003. After graduating, he worked as a general dentist for four years in different offices and hospitals, giving him experience treating patients with special needs. During this time, he completed a specialist degree in Comprehensive General Dentistry and a master's in Community Oral Health.

Following this, Dr. More attended a three-year residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery, which saw him performing a large scope of advanced procedures, including dental implant placement, trauma reconstruction, and benign and malignant pathology. After this, he furthered his training in the diagnosis, staging, and treatment of head and neck surgical oncology.

In 2015, he and his family moved to the United States, where he worked as a dental assistant in Dallas until he began International Dental Program at Virginia Commonwealth University, graduating in 2021. Since then, he has been happily serving the Matthews community as a general dentist. Today, he is a proud member of the American Dental Association and North Carolina Dental Association.
